E is for Echo

Narcissus never knew, and if he had,
It would have changed

The wishes we send out into the world
Echo back in
To us

Weary, grand, solitary, sad, hopeful
Bringing back home
A trace

Like gravity, pulling toward itself
Some detritus
Or other

The thing we want, the thing we fear, the thing
We never knew
Was there

Maybe Echo had the right idea
After all, just
To say

I love you, and please come back, and to never
Wish for more is
Too much.

Echoes can be haunting, beautiful, depending on the original sound source. Beautifully done.
